razer stargazerEarlier this year during CES 2016, Razer took the wraps off a webcam called the Stargazer. Razer isn’t necessarily known as a webcam company, but apparently the Stargazer has been built for gamers in mind, and appealing to the gamer market is certainly well within Razer’s expertise.

The good news is that if you have been eyeing the Stargazer, you’ll be pleased to learn that the webcam is now available for pre-order (shipping 2nd October), and the best part is that it is priced at $150 which is a good $50 less than its original price tag of $200. Granted $150 is still a lot of money to pay for a webcam, but if you think that this is what you need, why not?

So who would need the Stargazer? If you’re looking for a webcam just to chat with friends and family, chances are you’ll be better off with a cheaper solution. However if you’re a gamer/broadcaster, this where the Stargazer will shine. It is capable of recording 720p HD footage at 60fps, or 1080p Full HD at 30fps. It also has a depth-sensing feature that can actually remove bits and bobs in the background.

This means that if you’re streaming on Twitch and you’d rather not have the audience see your messy room, the webcam will be able to filter the background out and replace it with an artificial backdrop instead. Its 3D scanning technology could also be used to scan real-world objects, so if you need a 3D scanner in a pinch, this should do the trick.
