Motorola introduced the Motorola credit account in a bid to attract customers that wanted to purchase a smartphone directly from the company. The account enabled customers to pay off the cost of a device on a monthly basis so they got to purchase an unlocked smartphone directly from the company and pay for it easily over the course of several months. That will no longer be possible as Motorola is discontinuing the credit accounts.

It’s no longer possible to apply for a new Motorola credit account. Those who still have one are allowed to make purchases on Motorola’s website until November 29th. The accounts, operated by Capital bank and Comenity, will be closed completely for users that have no balance remaining.

Customers who do have a balance in their account will be required to pay it off. They will continue to receive monthly invoices about the balance until they have completely settled it. Until that happens, they will be able to access their account via the Comenity website.

Since Motorola credit is no longer available to customers who want to purchase an unlocked smartphone directly from Motorola, they have to rely on cash or their personal credit cards to make the purchase. Motorola hasn’t really given a reason as to why it’s shutting down Moto credit accounts for good.
