lucid_air10Range anxiety used to be one of the chief concerns when it came to electric vehicles. This is because the idea that your car could die in the middle of the road without anywhere to charge it is rather frightening, not to mention terribly inconvenient. Of course all of that has changed with EVs today which sport much longer ranges than before.

In fact Lucid Motors has taken the wraps off its latest car, the Lucid Air, which they are boasting a 400 mile range which should give other EV makers, such as Tesla, a run for their money. However the only downside is that the Lucid Air is only expected to enter into production come 2018, which means that customers will still have a year or so of waiting to do before they can get their hands on it.

So the question is, what can we expect for our money? According to the company, the Lucid Air will come with a 100 kWh battery, but there will also be a 130 kWh option. The vehicle is clearly a luxury vehicle, although Lucid Motors claims that it will fill the needs of luxury, sports, and regular car drivers. Its electric motor is capable of putting out 600 horsepower, and is capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

There are built-in sensors, cameras, and Lidar that will give the car autonomous capabilities, but we’re not sure how those compare to other similar options in the market today. The Lucid Air will not come cheap as it is priced at $100,000, but Lucid Motors stated that a cheaper $65,000 model will be produced in the future.
