Last month with the announcement of the new Microsoft Surface Pro, Microsoft also took the wraps off a new accessory for the tablet in the form of the Surface Pen. If this sounded like the perfect accessory to match your new Surface Pro tablet, then you’ll be happy to learn that the accessory is now available for pre-order.

According to the listing on Microsoft’s website, the Surface Pen is priced at $99.99 which is pretty expensive for what is essentially a stylus. Many made fun of the Apple Pencil and its price when it was launched, but it seems that Microsoft has decided that their Surface Pen is also worth just as much.

That being said, Microsoft is touting the accessory as being more than just your standard stylus.  Compared to its predecessor, the new Surface Pen is a lot more sensitive which means that it can be used for more nuanced applications as it boasts 4,096 pressure points up from 1,024. It also has a tilt feature that lets users use its side for things like shading. Whether or not you think that these new features are worth the price hike from the previous Surface Pen is up to you and how you want to use it.

So far based on what we have seen, it appears to be pretty smooth and quick without any perceptible lag, but if $100 is too dear for you to buy it right now, maybe you should try it in a store first. At the moment it seems that only the platinum finish is available for pre-order with a release date set for the 15th of June, with the other colors listed as “coming soon”.
