When Doomfist for Overwatch was officially unveiled, it’s safe to say that many gamers were surprised to discover that it wasn’t actor Terry Crews who would be voicing the character. Instead gamers discovered that it was actor and director Sahr Ngaujah that was the one behind Doomfist’s voice acting.

For those who are wondering why Crews was not chosen to voice the character, the folks at GameSpot found out why during an interview with the game’s senior designer Michael Chu. According to Chu, “We love Terry. Terry’s awesome. He came and visited us. We had a great time. But when we were looking for Doomfist, we were looking for something very specific given his role in the game and everything. When we were early in the audition process, we heard Sahr, who’s the actor who plays Doomfist, and he just blew us away immediately.”

He goes on to add, “Once we heard his voice, it was like, ‘Holy crap. That’s Doomfist.'” As to why gamers were disappointed, this is because long before the official announcement, Crews had teased that he could play the role and even publicly campaigned for it. However it seems that despite the initial surprise, many gamers have since come around and praised Blizzard’s choice and also Ngaujah’s acting of the character.
