We’re not sure why but until today, Blizzard has yet to officially launch a free trial/starter version of Overwatch. We’ve seen Blizzard offer trials for some of their other games, such as World of Warcraft, so we a trial version of Overwatch wouldn’t really be a stretch of the imagination, but when exactly that will launch remains to be seen.

However we suppose the next best thing would be to offer periods in time with free gameplay and access, which Blizzard has recently announced. Starting from the 16th of February and lasting until the 19th of February, Overwatch will be going free to play. This means that if you don’t own a copy of the game but want to check it out, this coming weekend would be the perfect timing for that.

This will include all platforms Overwatch is playable on, such as the PC, PS4, and the Xbox One. According to Blizzard, “For this free weekend, we’re making Overwatch’s full roster of 26 heroes and 16 maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the Arcade. Players will also have the ability to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock a variety of different customization options.”

As usual based on previous free weekend events, any progress players make during the free weekend will be carried over should they decide to purchase the full game, as long as they continue using the same account.
