Does a tech company know it has arrived when it finally gets its own custom font? That may not be the case because Netflix certainly arrived and even dominated the online video streaming scene long before it got its bespoke font but it has finally got one today nonetheless and it’s called Netflix Sans.

Netflix is far from being the only technology company that has its own bespoke font. It actually joins a rather distinguished list of companies which include Apple, Samsung, Google, and Microsoft.

The Netflix Sans typeface has been created by the company’s in-house design team in partnership with Dalton Maag. Netflix is going to use its custom font for all branding and marketing materials from now on.

The online video streaming giant previously used the Gotham font in its branding materials but it later decided to create its own typeface because it wanted a unique identity and because it no longer wanted to pay the expensive licensing fees for the Gotham font that Netflix was using in all of its international marketing campaigns. Netflix says that moving to its own type will save the company “millions of dollars” annually.

The jury is still out on whether or not the Netflix faithful will like this new typeface, even if they don’t, they’ll have to get used to it because they’re going to see a lot more of it now.
