It has been a while since Sony launched new tablets. The company has stuck to smartphones since 2015 which was when it last released tablets but that might be changing this year. A new report suggests that Sony is going to release the Xperia XZ2 tablet in the coming months in two different sizes. The possibility has been highlighted by Sony’s own camera app which contains references to what might be the upcoming tablets.

The report claims that Sony is going to launch new tablets this year as part of its Xperia XZ2 lineup. A teardown of Sony’s camera app has revealed references to the upcoming tablets, the strings specifically mention “Tablet_8inch” and “Tablet_10inch.”

If the reference in the code is taken at face value, then it suggests that Sony will launch at least two new tablets this year with 8 inch and 10 inch displays. The tablets will obviously be powered by Android as Sony doesn’t use any other operating system for its mobile devices.

No word as yet about the specifications of these new tablets but one can hold out hold for flagship-level specifications since that’s what the company went with when it launched its last slate, the Xperia Z4 Tablet, back in 2015.

Sony is yet to confirm, though, that it has a couple of new tablets in the pipeline that it intends to release this year. So it remains to be seen if and when these tablets will be launched.
