According to an earlier rumor, it was reported that Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch would be announced soon and that the game could arrive this year. The good news is that it looks like the rumors were true after all as Nintendo has announced that the title will indeed be arriving in 2018.

This was revealed during the company’s latest Nintendo Direct presentation where the game was announced. Details are scarce at the moment, but it looks like the game will feature two new characters from the Splatoon franchise, although this isn’t too surprising as Super Smash Bros. tends to feature a roster of characters from Nintendo games.

The rumor had previously suggested that the game might be a mix of old and new content, where it will be a port of the release on the Wii U, but still feature brand new content, which we guess is similar to what Nintendo did for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. However like we said, there aren’t many details available yet so this is still speculation.

However Nintendo did confirm that the game will be released in 2018, but when exactly is anyone’s guess. In the meantime fans of the franchise can check out the trailer above for the announcement.
