It’s time to say goodbye to Best Buy’s game subscription services which includes the retailer’s Gamers Club Unlocked program. It offered discounts on new gamers for customers through this program and some additional incentives. Customers had to sign up for the program and pay an annual fee but that will no longer be necessary as this program is being shut down.

Best Buy had originally priced Gamers Club Unlocked at $99.99 for a two-year membership but later decided to slash the price to $29.99 in March 2015. The membership provided customers with a 20 percent discount on new games, pre-orders included, and additional incentives such as better credits for trade-ins.

Gamers would have taken considerable advantage of this program as the low membership fee meant that if they diligently picked up new games, they could recoup the cost of their membership quickly.

The retailer has sent a memo to employees which surfaced on Twitter. The memo confirms that this program is going to be shut down, both its free and paid tiers. No new members will now be accepted into the Gamers Club Unlocked program. All existing members will be able to take advantage of the benefits that they are entitled to until their membership runs out. Once that happens, renewal will not be an option.
