While online shopping has become increasingly common, one of the advantages of buying a product in-person at a physical store is that you don’t have to wait for it to ship to your location, meaning you’ll be able to get it on the day itself. This is why some people still prefer going to physical stores for launch day purchases.

However, if you are thinking about buying the Sony PS5 or the Xbox Series X or S this year from the usual retailers like Best Buy or Walmart, do take note that you won’t be able to do so at their brick and mortar locations. Both retailers have announced that customers will need to place their orders online.

What this means is that gamers who were hoping to secure a console on launch day itself might not be able to do so. This is because like we said, there could be potential shipping delays, but also because online means that you’re basically competing against the entire country, some customers might not be able to secure themselves a unit.

However, given the coronavirus pandemic, it makes sense that retailers are trying to limit the number of people coming to their stores all at the same time. So if you are planning on picking up either of the new consoles, you might want to start getting yourself ready and mash that F5 button on launch day.
