Well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has made some predictions recently about the future of Apple’s wireless earbuds that the company calls AirPods. His predictions have often turned out to be true. Kuo doesn’t expect Apple to release a redesigned version of the AirPods in 2019 but does expect an updated model with a wireless charging case early next year.

Kuo says in a note sent to investors that an updated AirPods model with support for wireless charging, Bluetooth spec bump to version 5.0, and a new W-series chip is likely going to be launched in the first calendar quarter of next year. A Wireless AirPods Charging Case has already been talked about before, though, so this could be a nod to that as well.

An all new design is predicted for the AirPods in 2020. Apple will reportedly be looking to get customers to see the new model as a replacement for the first generation of AirPods. A higher degree of integration with iOS and Mac devices is predicted alongside a more “innovative user experience,” according to Kuo.

How much of this actually turns out to be accurate remains to be seen. Analyst predictions can often be hit or miss and the same can be said about this one as well. We’ll only get to know for sure when Apple makes an AirPods-related announcement at some point in 2019.
