PS3 Units Can Support 3D Via Firmware Update
Posted on November 21, 2009 9:29 AM

Could be all be gaming on the PS3 in the future with 3D stereoscopic technology? Well, according to Sony, it seems like that’s what the future will be like, and your current PS3 can support it with a firmware update (we've seen the PS3 demo at CEATEC in Tokyo). Sony is aiming to lead the 3D market (here's Sony's plan) and will be offering 3D-specific tools to developers making games on its platform. Now we’ll have to see what Nintendo and Microsoft plan to do about 3D technology. The Xbox 360 could easily support something similar. The Wii might lack the muscle to render everything twice per frame (left+right image)
Is Firefox Coming To The PS3?
Posted on November 19, 2009 10:36 AM

While the PS3 is a very good gaming machine, the built-in web browser is certainly nothing to shout about. Granted the PS3 wasn’t designed to replace your computer as a web browsing machine, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a better browser. Would going around the Internet is that Sony is in talks with Mozilla to port Firefox over to the PS3. Of course, this is still firming in the rumor bin at the moment, but we’ll have to sit back and see how this works out. Stay tuned!
Tony Hawk: RIDE now out
Posted on November 18, 2009 10:27 AM

Tony Hawk: RIDE has finally arrived in North America across Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, where most people would be curious to give the wireless skateboard controller a go in their living rooms. We wonder whether it is advisable to wear all the relevant safety gear just in case you land awkwardly on your floor. Interested? Be prepared to drop $119.99 for this title then. [Press Release]

It is but a first step where Facebook integration is concerned, and future updates are expected to see new features thrown into the mix.
Mad Catz unveil Wireless N Networking Adapter
Posted on November 16, 2009 10:24 PM

Mad Catz also joins Microsoft by rolling out their own version of the Wireless N Networking Adapter. Basically an Ethernet bridge, it plays nice with the PS3 works, retailing for a mere $79.99 which is a good $20 cheaper compared to the Microsoft version. Shipments have already started to North American and European retailers.
Is The PS3 Getting A Facebook Client?
Posted on November 12, 2009 12:38 AM

Could Sony’s PS3 be getting a Facebook client in the next firmware update? There’s no official word on it just yet, but leaked screenshots of a PS3 interface show a Facebook icon. Apparently the picture came from Sony UK’s site, but with the Photoshop skills of so many folks out there, who can be sure, right? Would you want your PS3 to have a Facebook client? Maybe in the future we’ll see our Facebook wall filled with updates on what games our friends are playing on their PS3.
PS3 Slim slathered in 24k gold
Posted on November 10, 2009 9:02 AM

Computer-Choppers introduces their latest blinged up creation - a new PS3 Slim that is covered in 24k gold without having Midas touch it. There will only be 5 of these available worldwide, making it extremely rare to own. No idea on pricing, but if you have to ask, you won't be able to afford it anyways. We're still trying to understand the whole deal with blinged up tech that is going to get obsolete anyways.
PS3 Coffee Table
Posted on November 5, 2009 10:06 PM

If gaming plays an extremely large role in your life, then you might want to check out this piece of furniture - the PS3 Coffee Table. Designed by Stephane Perruchon, this video game inspired coffee table will boast handmade PS3 controllers (in a much larger scale, of course) that function as a base, alongside two handles made of ABS followed by buttons as decorations. Available in black and white colors, we have no idea on how much they cost but we're sure gamers won't mind forking out some moolah for this to grace their living rooms, eh?
Netflix streaming disc can now be reserved
Posted on November 5, 2009 5:33 PM

We all know that Netflix will be offering video streaming for the PS3, and that this feature will be made available to PS3 owners before the year is over. Which isn't too far away, actually, so if you're a Netflix subscriber (and own a PS3 at the same time), might we suggest that you get a copy of the Netflix disc in order to get ready for the big kahuna when it happens?
God of War III Ultimate Edition
Posted on November 3, 2009 6:02 PM

PS3 owners will be able to get their hands on the God of War III Ultimate Edition that will boast a range of exclusive collectible and digital content, all coming in a high-end sculpted replica of Pandora’s Box for added effect. Tipped to be out alongside the vanilla God of War III edition in March next year, you can place a pre-order for your copy today. It would be interesting to see whether this title will help Sony move more consoles, or would most people who want to play this already own a PS3 in the first place. Expect to fork out $99.99 for God of War III Ultimate Edition when placing your order.

Do you have some money to spare? Then you might truly consider the 250GB Sony PS3 that will be hitting gamers Stateside this coming November 3rd (that's two days from now in case you were wondering), and a ninja has already snapped a photo of a yet-to-be-unboxed PS3 to whet your appetites.
Netflix offers video streaming on PS3
Posted on October 25, 2009 10:48 PM

The Sony PS3 gets another feather in its cap with Netflix announcing that they will offer instant streaming of thousands of movies into your living room via the PS3 for free (Netflix members only with a $8.99 monthly account) without any additional cost. Too bad this offer applies only to those living in the US and own a PS3. You will use the PS3 system's Wireless Controller to select the movie of your choice to watch from the instant Queues, or opt to play straight from any of the lists. [Press Release]
Sony PS3 tops sales charts
Posted on October 20, 2009 8:54 AM

For home console sales in the US, of course, as it narrowly lost to the nigh formidable Nintendo DS by a narrow margin, moving 491,800 PS3s last month thanks to a price drop and a rejuvenated form factor, edging out Nintendo's Wii that stood at 462,800 units with Microsoft's Xbox 360 lagging behind at 352,600 units. Do you think that this sales figure will taper off in the coming months, or will it be maintained at the current rate for a long time to come, helping vindicate the folks at Sony that the PS3 will bring 4D gaming to the masses?
Sony Stereo 3D on PlayStation 3, Hands-On
Posted on October 5, 2009 8:37 PM

CEATEC 2009] Sony was showing stereo 3d on the PS3. I looked at a demo KillZone 2 (the intro) and it was quite interesting to watch. It looks like something that that would be done in the driver on a PC (that's how it works on many games) but PS3 developers code down to the metal, so additional work might be required per title, I'm just not sure for now (I'll try to dig). The more interesting part was how Sony made the overall user PS3 interface "3D" in a functional way. Buttons are visibly pushed up and down and background effects are now literally in the background. It's well done and worth taking a look at. This requires glasses.
Sphere codename rumor
Posted on October 5, 2009 8:20 PM

Sony's PlayStation Motion Controller might finally have a name - Sphere. At least, that's the gist of it since Sony could be using the word with developers, highlighting the glowing, colored orb that is at the center of the motion controller's technology. After all, Sega producer Yasuhito Baba and his translator did refer to the controller as "Sphere" during an interview at Tokyo Game Show last month. He was also joined by Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi who mentioned the PlayStation Motion Controller when asked whether Gran Turismo would support Sphere.
PS3 Slim 250GB Spotted
Posted on October 4, 2009 7:06 AM

We’ve previously got wind of a 250GB version of the PS3 Slim, and now it looks like we were right (which feels great to be honest!) Live pictures of a 250GB PS3 Slim have been spotted online, which certainly is a great way of confirming the existence of such an item. So what will it be when the PS3 Slim is released, the 250GB version of the puny 120GB version? Drop us a comment to let us know what you think.
Sony PS3 Slim 250GB bundle
Posted on September 25, 2009 10:31 AM

Sony will be rolling out a 250GB PS3 Slim bundle that is made available on Amazon UK, where it will ship later this October 1st for £284.99. This is a pretty good offer considering less than half that amount of storage space will set you back by £244.69, while the 250GB bundle comes with a free game and a HDMI cable. Expect to choose between FIFA 10 or Need for Speed Shift when it comes to this particular bundle, where we suppose a Stateside model, should it be realized, will feature other titles that are skewed more towards that target demographic.
Sony Final Fantasy XIII PS3 exclusive
Posted on September 24, 2009 4:11 AM

Looks like the 250GB PS3 is very real, where it will come in a pretty pink color as a Final Fantasy XIII exclusive, complete with Lightning printed on the body (the main character in the game). It will be up for sale come this December 17th, which would make it a very last minute Christmas present for those in Japan although we're pretty sure you ought to be able to get a bundle for yourself if you happen to live outside of Japan through your friendly neighborhood import shop.
Sony Motion Controller coming next spring
Posted on September 24, 2009 3:57 AM

While Nintendo has their well-established Wiimote and Nunchuk, the Xbox 360 has already announced Project Natal to be part of its future immersive game playing experience. Sony, on the other hand, will release its Motion Controller early next year when spring arrives. This new controller will come with high-precision, highly accurate motion sensors in order to deliver a whole new entertainment experience on PS3. There is one drawback, however, which is you will need to pick up the PlayStation Eye camera beforehand, where the latter is able to recognize and track a user's face and voice as well as body motion. The Motion Controller itself will come with a couple of motion sensors, a trio of axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer which is able to detect the controller's angle and movement whenver held in the user's hand. When used in tandem with the PlayStation Eye camera, the PS3 is able to track the absolute position of the controller accurately. One can also expect the new controller to come with a rumble feature for a more immersive gaming experience. There is no word on pricing, but we wonder whether we can use the Motion Controller to club someone over the head in MGS4. [Press Release]
250GB PS3 Slim bundles coming your way
Posted on September 22, 2009 12:22 AM

Alleged screenshots from a Norwegian GameStop inventory system have revealed the existence of 250GB PS3 Slim bundles, where they will come in a pair with various titles to suit many game genres including Need for Speed: Shift, FIFA 10, Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Local prices in the Norwegian GameStop have pointed to a $640 sticker price for each bundle, which is $85 more compared to the 120GB model. Hopefully if these prove to be true, they will be much cheaper for us living Stateside.
