GTA 5 is an old game, but the folks at Rockstar have managed to keep milking the series with GTA Online. This allows GTA gamers to continue enjoying the game with their friends online, kind of like an MMO of sorts. Unfortunately for those who are still playing on the PS3 or Xbox 360, the fun is coming to an end.

In an announcement by Rockstar, it seems that they have decided to shut down GTA Online for PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers by the end of the year, the 16th of December, 2021 to be exact. According to Rockstar, this is done to “move forward with updates and support” for newer consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the launch of GTA 5 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year.

“As we continue to move forward with updates and support for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto Online — as well as prepare for this Fall’s launches of the new expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will officially be shutting down on December 16, 2021.”

As the company notes, this will only affect gamers on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Those who are still playing on the PC, Xbox One, or PS4 will still be able to enjoy the game without any issues.
