itunes app storeAd blockers are a huge deal for iOS. Prior to iOS 9, only Android had the ability to install ad blockers on its phone, but with the release of Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS users finally have a legitimate means of doing so. That being said, it seems that in our rush to embrace ad blockers, it has resulted in potential security breaches.

In a report from TechCrunch, Apple has removed several iOS ad blockers for installing root certificates. One of those ad blockers is Been Choice which basically allows the blocking of ads within apps (iOS ad blockers only blocks ads on Safari). This sounds great, but unfortunately in the process it has left iOS devices open to man-the-the-middle attacks. Read full post →Apple Removing iOS Ad Blockers That Install Root Certificates

Priv-RedditThe BlackBerry Priv is no longer a secret. In fact save for an announcement date, BlackBerry has all but revealed the handset, even releasing official photos in the process. That being said if you are after photos of the phone in real-life to get a better idea of what it could look like in your hands, you’re in luck.

According to a thread on Reddit (via CrackBerry), original poster imsorandom was lucky enough to attend a CISO conference in Toronto in which he managed to bump into a BlackBerry executive (no names were given, obviously) who allowed him to give the handset a once over and to snap some photos. elon-musk-newThe rumors are claiming that Apple is working on an electric/self-driving car of their own. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but if there is one thing consistent about these rumors is that Apple has been steadily poaching employees from Tesla, one of the frontrunners in the electric car market.

In fact the rumors claim that the poaching of employees is so bad that it has apparently affected the development of Tesla’s cars. Now you would think that Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO would be worried, but apparently not. In fact he doesn’t think too much of the hires according to a recent interview with German newspaper Handelsbatt (via Cult of Mac). oneplus xA couple of weeks ago we reported that there was a handset from OnePlus possibly called the OnePlus X that was due for a launch in October. As it turns out, the rumors weren’t that far off the mark. According to OnePlus CEO Liu Zuohu, he posted an image on Weibo which you can see in the screenshot to the right.

As you can see, the image shows a map and lines that clearly mark an “X”. According to the translation, the “X” name is mentioned too although the translation does seem a little off and doesn’t really make sense, at least not in English. As to when the phone will be launched? There is a good chance we might see it come October 12. Read full post →Possible OnePlus X Moniker Confirmed By Company’s CEO

htc-first-discontinued-attYou guys might recall that a couple of years ago, Facebook and HTC teamed up for the Facebook phone called the HTC First. It wasn’t a very impressive handset to begin with, but the main selling point was that it came with several dedicated Facebook features and came with Facebook Home preinstalled.

It wasn’t long before the phone was discounted to $0.99, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that Facebook is no longer interested in making another Facebook phone. This is according to Dave Marcus, Facebook’s Vice President of Messaging products who said that the social network will “probably not” be making another smartphone. open_announcement_oneplus2One of the downsides to the OnePlus 2 isn’t so much the phone itself, it’s the ordering process in which customers will need an invite first before being able to purchase one. In a way it’s good as it manages inventory and expectations, but at the same time we reckon it’s frustrating for customers who have to wait.

Now if you’re still eyeing the OnePlus 2 despite the plethora of new phones being released into the market, you’re in luck. Making good on their promise that the company made last month with regards to orders being delayed, OnePlus has officially announced that starting October 12, customers will be able to order the OnePlus 2 for themselves without an invite.
