bb passport whiteThe BlackBerry Passport when first announced managed to raise a few eyebrows. Its odd choice for a 1:1 display was questionable, although it seems that there are many who are slowly starting to warm up to the idea of it. That being said, the majority of apps haven’t been designed for such aspect ratios, but BlackBerry is hoping developers will do something about it.

According to an email that BlackBerry has begun sending to developers, it basically reminds them that they should get their BlackBerry Q10 apps ready for the BlackBerry Passport. “As the release of the BlackBerry Passport approaches, we want to ensure that your apps will be part of the new product launch [...] The great news for you is that most apps that offer support for BlackBerry Q10 will also function seamlessly on the new smartphone. For your convenience, we will be automatically expanding your device support to include the BlackBerry Passport for your apps that currently support the BlackBerry Q10.” Read full post →BlackBerry Prompts Developers To Prep Their Apps For The Passport

nomadplus 640x235Battery packs are a pretty common sight these days and we reckon that we’ll continue seeing them around for a while, at least until smartphone OEMs can create a device that can last longer than a day on a full charge. However if you were looking for a smartphone battery pack that is small and convenient, perhaps the NomadPlus could be worth taking a look at.

As you can see in the image above, the NomadPlus is no bigger than your standard iPhone wall charger. In fact this is what makes the NomadPlus so unique. It allows users to charge the battery pack itself in the wall by integrating itself with the Apple charger. This means that when you’re on holiday, you won’t have to bring separate devices as the iPhone’s wall charger will fit into the NomadPlus just fine. modbook pro xThere have been talks in the past about how Apple could be interested in the idea of a hybrid device, like a MacBook laptop with a touchscreen display which we guess combines the best of an iPad with a MacBook. While it remains to be seen if Apple will actually launch such a product, in the meantime you might be interested in taking a look at the Modbook Pro X.

The Modbook Pro X is a tablet device that is based on the internals of the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. What this means is that the tablet will be powered by OS X 10.10 Yosemite and will also pack a Retina display of 2,880×1,800, so if you wanted a more full-fledged operating system for your tablet, perhaps this could be the answer to your problems. neverwinter 640x359One of the ways to draw attention to a gaming platform would be by announcing games for it that could have the potential of attracting more gamers. 141018 best buy ipad cartIs the trend of tablets starting to fade? Could PCs be seeing a revival? In the past there have been advocates of tablets who had strongly believed that tablets would eventually take over PCs, but according to a recent interview with Re/code, Best Buy’s CEO seems to think otherwise. He seems to think that the tablet boom is crashing and PCs are set for a revival.

According to Hubert Joly, “The tablets boomed and now are crashing. The volume has really gone down in the last several months. But I think the laptop has something of a revival because it’s becoming more versatile. So, with the two-in-ones, you have the opportunity to have both a tablet and laptop, and that’s appealing to students in particular. So you have an evolution. The boundaries are not as well defined as they used to be.” Read full post →Best Buy CEO Thinks Tablet Sales Are “Crashing”

nokia icon review 002 640x359Is Microsoft late to the mobile party? Well in some ways yes, but should Microsoft give up and just move on? That remains up for debate, but according to former Microsoft evangelist, Robert Scoble, he thinks that Microsoft should just give up on Windows Phone and embrace Android, which at the moment is the clear and dominant smartphone platform.

According to Scoble who spoke in an interview with GeekWire, “That train has sailed. The real answer is, give up Windows Phone, go Android, and embrace and extend like you did with the Internet. But they don’t listen to me.” He also offered that one of the reasons Microsoft might be slow to change is because they’re a big company that is committee-driven, making them slow. It has long been advocated that we should use long and complex passwords to protect our online accounts. This is because complex passwords makes it harder for anyone to guess what it is. After all, a password of “12345” is pretty easy to figure out and you don’t even need to be a hacker to try and guess it!

That being said, long and complex passwords can be tricky to remember if you have many online accounts, which is why password managers like 1Password can come in handy. The good news is that thanks to iOS 8’s extensions, 1Password’s integration into iOS could prove to be a convenient way of managing passwords.
