oppo-r7s-dubaiOppo has churned out some rather impressive handsets in the past, and it does not look as though they are going to stop anytime soon. In fact, the Oppo R7s, a device that has yet to make its way to the market despite garnering its fair share of attention in the form of rumors, is all set to debut in Dubai later this month. First spotted at TENAA in September, the Oppo R7s will take over from its predecessor, the Oppo R7, as the curtains will be raised at this year’s edition of Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) that is set to happen from October 18 to 22 in Dubai.

Do expect the Oppo R7s to arrive with a bigger battery, a larger screen and double the storage space of the R7, all without compromising on build quality as it comes with a full-metal unibody chassis in addition to being able to capture some really, really great looking photos. Revealed hardware specifications to date include a Snapdragon 615 SoC with 1.5GHz CPU, a 5.5” Full HD AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 13MP shooter behind, an 8MP shooter in front, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as the mobile operating system of choice.

Expect the Oppo R7s to be flanked by its siblings such as the R7 Plus, R7 Lite, Mirror 5, and the recently revealed R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition, too.

Well, it seems that the long awaited rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates when it comes to the Nexus range of devices has kicked off slowly, albeit surely in the Over The Air (OTA) manner as of yesterday. While most of these Nexus devices happen to be high end models in their own right at the moment or in the past, this does not mean that Google has neglected the other handsets in their stable. Apparently, Google too, has plans for their Android One devices, and while nothing official has been announced just yet, the rollout to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has begun – nice!

lollipop-distriIt was just in September that we heard how the Lollipop update of the Android mobile operating system has passed the 20% mark where Google’s Android distribution chart is concerned. In other words, from the beginning of September onward, 21% of all active Android devices had at least one of the two versions known as Lollipop up and running in their respective devices.

What happens when we fast forward time by a month? Well, it seems that the market share of Android 5.x Lollipop continues to be on the ascent, although it is not all that rapid or super impressive, it still does make some sort of headway. In the recently published chart for the beginning of October, Google has revealed to all and sundry that 23.5% of all active Android devices happen to run on Android 5.x Lollipop at the moment, now how about that for progress?

Since this happens to be a zero sum game, then KitKat would be the ‘victim’ here, dropping a wee bit to 38.9% from 39.2% in the previous last month. As for the trio of Jelly Bean iterations combined, they now hold a 30.2% market share, down from 31.8%. Ice Cream Sandwich will see a drop to 3.4% from 3.7%, while Gingerbread goes to 3.8% from 4.1%. Strangely enough, Froyo remains the same at 0.2% of installs.

bocco[CEATEC 2015] We might not live in a generation where our lifestyle is similar to that of the Jetsons, but this does not mean that we are lagging that far behind in terms of having robots serving in our homes. Bocco, for instance, is a cute little bugger that makes you want to go out and buy one immediately, if you remain unfazed by its 29,000 Yen price point exclusive of tax – which would see it retail in the region of $300 after conversion, of course. The Bocco robot has already started to ship in Japan this July, where it functions as a family robot.

That is certainly not necessarily the case at all, especially when you take into consideration the kind of hard work that has been put into various technologies that intend to shrink things down even further so that whatever components or devices that we are able to make use of, those will not only be smaller, but lighter and more energy efficient as well. ROHM intends to see to this with their RASMID – where it is touted to sport some of the world’s smallest components. Heck, they are so small, that you can see them being placed in those tiny hourglasses on the table and can sift through from one end to the other with the influence of gravity. The RASMID is the world’s smallest Transient Voltage Transistor (TVS), where it consumes very little energy and is environmentally friendly.
