Back in June, Facebook revealed that in the past, they had conducted a secret experiment on its users in which they manipulated the News Feed in order to see how it affected the feelings of its users. Naturally this did not sit well and there are some who are calling for Facebook to be investigated over their experiment.
Interestingly enough despite the backlash, online dating website OKCupid has recently announced that they have been conducting experiments on its users as well. In fact OKCupid seems to be pretty brazen with their claims, stating that if you’re using the Internet, there is a good chance that you’re already subject to hundreds of experiments. As you’re probably aware by now, China is not the biggest fan of Microsoft and has accused the company of anti-monopoly activities and also to a certain extent, spying. Well it looks like Russia too has fears about spying, although not necessarily from Microsoft. According to a report from Reuters, it seems that the Russian government is asking that Apple and SAP turn over their source code for inspection.
According to the Russian government, they claim that the proposal for the source code of both companies is to ensure the rights of consumers and corporate users are protected in terms of privacy of personal data, as well as to ensure state security.
