acer-c720p-chromebookWhile you probably can’t play full fledged games like Battlefield, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and etc. on Chromebooks, they are still pretty good devices that are value for money. They are good enough for students who are simply looking for a computer to take with them to classes or to type up assignments, or for the business user who just needs basic functionality while on the go.

This is why it isn’t all too surprising to discover that Chromebooks have made up the top 3 Amazon laptop sales. According to Amazon’s listing, the top selling laptop is the Acer C720 Chromebook, followed by the ASUS Chromebook C300 in second place, and HP’s Chromebook 11 coming in third place. oldpiratebayA couple of weeks ago, Swedish police raided the offices where The Pirate Bay’s servers were being kept, essentially knocking them offline. Well unsurprisingly in the process, many The Pirate Bay copies have sprung up, one of them courtesy of the folks at IsoHunt who have also released The Open Bay.

For those unfamiliar, The Open Bay basically allows anyone, regardless of their knowledge of how the internet works, to deploy their own version of The Pirate Bay using backup databases of the original The Pirate Bay, IsoHunt, and Kickass Torrents. Of course there are probably all sorts of legal ramifications to someone who decides to deploy their own The Pirate Bay, but the point is that anyone can do it. Well unfortunately it looks like that may no longer be the case.

According to the Chaos Computer Club, they claim that they are able to reproduce your fingerprints simply based on photos alone. Speaking at the 31st annual Chaos Computer Club, Jan Krissler explained how he had managed to copy the thumbprint of Germany’s Defense Minister based on a photo. Lizard Squad, a hacker group, has been pretty busy over Christmas. First it knocked down PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, bringing online gaming on PlayStation and Xbox consoles to a standstill, and then set its sights on an anonymity network called Tor. Lizard Squad shifted its focus over the weekend, saying that it would “no longer attack” gaming services, and instead go after Tor with a zero-day exploit. Simply put, a zero-day exploit is one that leverages an unknown vulnerability.

Each year Apple conducts a special retail store event for people who are based in Japan. The event actually stems from the tradition known as Fukubukuro where retailers will fill a bag with mysterious products and sell that bag for a lot less than the original price, customers only get to know what’s inside the bag once they’ve purchased it. Apple follows this tradition and has given away MacBooks and iPads in the past as part of its Lucky Bag event.

Samsung has a habit of releasing multiple variants of its flagship devices. Usually there’s little difference between these variants, the most common being Samsung’s own Exynos processors instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, and these are distributed as per particular market requirements. Some variants tend to be limited to one country, take the Galaxy note 4 S-LTE (SM-N916) for example, which is destined for launch in South Korea next month.
