It can be said without a doubt that the current console war is being won by Sony. The company has already sold over 10 million units to consumers around the world, significantly more than Microsoft has managed to ship to retailers. Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida hinted that Sony really doesn’t know why its latest console is selling so well. Data from Nielsen suggests that switchers from other consoles like Wii or Xbox might have something to with this.

I have long argued that Windows Phones have historically been a low priority for handset vendors because the volume is relatively low, especially in the high-end. It has been widely reported today that Microsoft is testing a new free Xbox Live game download program. Apparently it would have only been offered to Xbox Live members, it would have allowed Xbox owners to download and try out additional titles from Microsoft for a limited time. Some viewed it as an extension of the Xbox Live feature that lets gamers add free titles to their libraries each month. Microsoft has been quick to point out the truth in this scenario, it claims that the posting was actually an error.

There’s no doubt in the fact that a lot of gamers around the world are waiting for Destiny to be released. The title has already been through an alpha and beta release, all it did was increase gamers’ appetite for Bungie’s latest game. Activision has sunk in a whopping $500 million in Destiny and judging by the response so far it looks like this might have been a good investment by the publisher. BlackBerry still has a loyal user base in the UK however Microsoft’s Windows Phone, which has already overtook it in the U.S., is chasing down the Canadian manufacturer across the pond as well. New data from research group eMarketer shows that if there’s no significant bump in the market share of BlackBerry, then Windows Phone might take its position by the end of this year and will continue to extend that lead into 2015.
