Willow Garage, the company developing the real robot PR2 (picture), published the results of their Favorite Fictional Robot Survey that draw over 500 votes: R2-D2 came out on top! (picture)

• 2. Bender, from Futurama (76.4%)
• 3. WALL-E (73.9%)
• 4. Marvin, in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (66.3%)
• 5. HAL 9000, from 2001: A Space Odyssey (65.4%)
• 6. Eve, from WALL-E (62.7%)
• 7. T-800 or T-1000 from The Terminator (60.8%)
• 8. Data, from Star Trek: Next Generation (60.1%)
• 9. C-3PO, from Star Wars (58.9%)
• 10. Johnny Five, from Short Circuit (53.3%)

Willow Garage’s note: “we released this survey into the wild a few weeks ago to determine the favorite fictional robot from the Willow Garage community. The survey focused on fictional robots (although we do appreciate the write-in votes for the PR2!) and was winnowed down to a Top 15 following an internal Willow Garage survey that included 40 original names.”
