3DS fans have been waiting for a solid US launch date and now Nintendo has finally announced that the 3D console will be released in the US on March 27th for $249.99. European details of this hotly anticipated console haven’t been mentioned yet, though. The gaming company is promising over 30 games to be available during the launch window, so at least you’ll have plenty of games to choose from when purchasing it.

If you’re a multiplayer junkie, you’ll be happy to hear that Nintendo has improved on the friend codes system. Now there is only a single code involved, and it’s assigned on a per-console basis and registered only once. You’ll have a single group of friends, and you’ll be able to see when they’re online, without having to worry about managing multiple lists. Do you think the 3DS will be a popular console for online gaming?

Update: Folks over in the UK will be able to snag the console from March 25th and it should be priced between GBP220 and GBP250.
