We’re still in the midst of the Chinese Lunar New Year, where the number 8 is highly significant to those celebrating the occasion. Well, the Android operating system certainly gives something to cheer about for those obsessed with statistics as research firm Gartner measured “sales-out” to buyers, seeing manufacturers ship 67.2 million Android smartphones last year, compared to 6.8 million from the year before – that translates to a cool 184,000 Android smartphones sold per day on average. When compared to Apple’s iPhone, the fruity company sold an average handsets each day. With the CDMA iPhone from Verizon Wireless debuting this week, it goes without saying that Apple might just experience a sudden jump for this quarter, although we do expect Android sales to pick up as well instead of slowing down due to new 4G-enabled handsets.
