Who would have thought that Zynga, the developer for many of Facebook’s top 10 games, did not take pole position when it comes to the most popular game on Facebook for the year 2011? Instead, Playdom-backed Gardens of Time picks up the gong for this year. Just what is Gardens of Time, and how the heck did it manage to beat out on all the “Ville” series of games such as FarmVille and CityVille? For starters, perhaps gamers are already jaded, hence Gardens of Time functions as a hidden object game which will require the gamer to travel through a time machine and locate objects throughout history, all the while making sure the world remains protected from the traditional set of “sinister forces.”
EA’s The Sims Social and Zynga’s Cityville make up the remaining two spots on the Top 3, where the latter actually debuted in 2010 and took over FarmVille as Zynga’s most popular game. According to Facebook, “The average game player on Facebook played more than three different gaming titles each month and played more than half the days they visited the site.” Just how much of your life has been dedicated to a Facebook game at the office? We won’t tell the boss, don’t worry about it.
