Is any phone worth dying for? Temidayo Ogunneye, a 15-year old kid, had the misfortune of being stabbed to death after he confronted muggers and asked for the return of his BlackBerry, according to a court hearing yesterday. Needless to say, Temidayo Ogunneye was streetwise enough to flee for his life after his BlackBerry retrieval attempt was moving in the fruitless dierction, especially when his attackers begun to pull out weapons. As Temidayo ran, he tripped and fell, and was subsequently pounced by his attackers who went ahead to stab him, where he finally succumbed to a single fatal knife wound to his heart.

The accused are 18-year old Darius Kwakye, a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, and all three have denied the charges. According to prosecutor Richard Whittam QC, “Some of the witnesses suggest that Temidayo was, on the face of it, rather getting the better of that fight. Had it remained a fist fight we would not, I suspect, be trying these defendants for murder. But knives were introduced into that fight and these three defendants were each seen at some stage with a knife.”

No idea on what the verdict would be in due time, but let us keep our fingers crossed that justice will be served.
