Sometime back in 2010, Google acquired ITA Software, an air reservation platform currently employed by a host of travel companies, such as Orbitz, Bing Travel, Kayak, CheapTickets and even other airline companies. Well it seems that after dipping their toes in the social networking industry, Google now plans to dip their toes in the airline reservation business by partnering up with Cape Air, a small regional carrier.

Unlike the system of the old, this new system deployed by Cape Air is said to have been built from scratch, using modular and scalable technologies. If this means what we think it means, there is a chance that Google could be eyeing larger airline companies in the future when it comes to using their new system.

According to Cape Air, this new ITA booking platform will allow for easier shopping of tickets, self-service tools for making changes in reservations and itineraries and a booking blow that’s both “smooth and secure”. If you’re planning to fly Cape Air or Nantucket Airlines, let us know how the booking experience was for you, and if ITA Software’s new booking system is really all that it’s made out to be. More information can be found at ITA Software’s website.
