Google has announced that its artificial intelligence app, Gemini, has officially surpassed one billion monthly active users. CEO Sundar Pichai shared the milestone on X, highlighting Gemini as the fastest-growing product in the company’s history. With this achievement, the app becomes Google’s 14th service to reach the one billion user threshold.
The platform’s user base has expanded rapidly over recent years. Google reported 400 million monthly active users in May 2025, which rose to 900 million by May 2026. An additional 50 million users joined by late July 2026, driving the total past the one billion mark. Over 100 million of these users access the application via iOS, while advanced users on macOS submit roughly twice as many requests per individual compared to users on other operating systems.
Usage statistics demonstrate strong engagement across multiple features. The application currently generates over 150 million images daily, and 63% of users engage in direct conversational interactions with the AI. Furthermore, one out of every five interactions within Gemini Live extends beyond audio commands to utilize multimodal capabilities, such as camera feeds and live screen sharing.
1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done. It’s our fastest growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark.
Kudos to @JoshWoodward & the entire Gemini team, and thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us -… pic.twitter.com/sSWrULX4Qn

Looking forward, Google plans to introduce several updates to expand the platform’s utility beyond basic conversation and content creation. The company is preparing to launch support for more than 60 regional dialects alongside dedicated study tools scheduled for release in the coming weeks.
On Android devices, Google emphasized expanded task automation capabilities across more than 40 applications. Additional feature rollouts and product integrations are set to be officially presented at the upcoming Made by Google 2026 event.
