The story goes like this: a two-year old boy in China was playing with his friends outside a small village near Mengzi City in the Yunnan Province when he fell down a well. This was a 40 foot drop and villagers were alerted to his plight after hearing him crying. They then tossed down some rope which he held onto for about an hour until emergency services arrived. As far as the rescue workers were concerned, it appeared to be a pretty standard affair – they’d just lower a harness into the well and hoist the boy up. Unfortunately due to his age and small stature, the harness (which was meant for adults) did not fit him properly and he kept slipping out of it. That’s when the rescue workers had the bright idea of lowering down an iPhone with its video function on to give them a clearer picture of what they were working with and how to better loop the harness’s straps around the boy. Pretty interesting and creative use of a smartphone if we ever saw one. For those curious about the boy’s well-being, doctors have stated that he suffered from bruises but was not seriously injured.
