Apple-TV

We’ve been hearing rumors about Apple’s new TV over the past few weeks. Now apparently, the folks over at BGR have learnt from a source that they claim is ‘trusted’, that the Cupertino tech giant is planning to demo a brand new version of the Apple TV’s OS at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC 2012) that will be taking place from the 11th of June through to the 15th. Reportedly, the new OS in question is said to be much more feature-complete than the current OS that Apple TV runs.

In addition to that, the source also states that this OS will feature on Apple’s much talked about and upcoming HDTV. Besides the OS demo, the unknown source apparently also mentioned that Apple is in the process of trying to court manufacturers to use a new “control out” API which will allow third-party manufacturers to make accessories that will be compatible with the new OS and the HDTV/iTV. Apparently, by using the API, it is said to be “possible to control any connected components, all from the Apple Remote and the Apple Remote iOS application.”

The API in question here is said to work with a variety of popular components and will apparently also allow control over elements such as program guides on cable operators’ set-top-boxes along with other hardware components. The source also claims that Apple will not actually show off the TV itself at WWDC. With all that said however, it would be advisable for you to take this news with a pinch of salt since it hasn’t been officially acknowledged. However, it is possible that this is true and if we want to find out, we can be happy that we don’t have that long to wait.
