AT&T logoSafe to say there are still plenty of AT&T subscribers who might still be stuck on feature phones or devices that can’t support 3G speeds or higher, and instead will have to turn to 2G networks. Well it seems that AT&T has announced that starting from today, the carrier has begun a process of refarming its 2G 1900MHz spectrum in New York City. No word from the carrier on how long this refarming process is expected to take, but the carrier has announced that this is done to help free up some additional bandwidth which in turn will help make their 3G and 4G networks run a lot smoother, or so they hope! So what about those customers who are still stuck with 2G phones? The service will still be available but it is expected to degrade as the refarming process grows. AT&T has mentioned that they will be reaching out to these customers such as offering them discounted 3G-capable devices. The carrier did not mention when they might start taking this practice to other states, but if you’re living in New York City and you own a 2G device, you might want to start considering a 3G option soon! In the mean time be sure to check back with us as we will try to keep you updated with AT&T’s progress.
