[CES 2013] Ultrabooks have no doubt gained a lot of traction in the past year or so, and if you’re in the market for a new Ultrabook, Gigabyte has announced the U2142 and U2442F Ultrabooks, with the former offering a hybrid setup, while the latter emphasizes more on performance. Kicking things off with the U2142, this Ultrabook will sport a swivel hinge which allows it to double up as a tablet or an Ultrabook depending on your needs. It comes in SSD or HDD options (up to 256GB mSATA SSD or 1TB HDD) and according to Gigabyte, measures a mere 20mm thin. It will sport a 3rd gen Intel Core processor, full I/O ports with Windows 8 running the show.

Next up would be the U2442F which will be slightly more powerful at least in the graphics department. It will come with a 3rd gen Intel Core processor as well, but will also come with either NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M or GT 650M GPUs. Since the U2442 will be drawing more power, Gigabyte has designed it with dual air vents which according to them, will keep the Ultrabook from overheating while keeping noise to a minimum since the fans won’t have to be working so hard. It will sport a backlit keyboard and will support a 128GB mSATA SSD and a 750GB/1TB HDD at the same time, allowing users the speediness of booting up while offering huge storage at the same time. The U2142 is expected to retail for $999 while the U2442F will be priced at $1,299 and should be available come February 2013.
