Facebook allows its users to share almost everything about themselves with their friends. It can be their pictures, videos, notes, achievements and even location. Now the online social behemoth will allow its users to transfer files between them, files that weigh up to one gigabyte. Called Pipe, its basically a peer-to-peer file sharing app that Facebook users can utilize to transfer files in way that until tomorrow wasn’t possible. Pipe goes live for all users on Wednesday.
Pipe has been in beta stage for little over a year, it was initially only available for a select group of users. Starting tomorrow Facebook users will simply drag and drop files that they want their friends to receive directly. The transfer is done in real-time, so if the recipient is offline, the file can be retrieved at a later time. Users concerned about privacy should find solace in the fact that since it will be a peer-to-peer connection, the files won’t pass through Facebook, they’ll go directly from one computer to the other. Pipe app will be available in Facebook App Center on Wednesday at 6 a.m. PT.
