philips-w6618Smartphones these days come with battery sizes ranging anywhere between 2,000mAh to 3,000mAh, with some going slightly over 3,000mAh, and rarely do we see phones whose batteries are of the 4,000mAh battery. At least until the Philips W6618 came along. The phone was recently launched in China and one of its main selling points is its 5,300mAh battery.

Yup, you read that right, the Philips W6618 comes with a battery that is about double the size of your average smartphone and according to the company, is apparently enough to provide users with a stand-by time of more than two months and a talk time of up to 33 hours which we have to admit is mighty impressive.

This huge battery means that it should be great for hardcore users who surf, playing games, listen to music, and talk on the phone all day. Unfortunately not everything about the phone is that great, starting with its 5-inch display which unfortunately only has resolution of 540×960. Then again the less powerful display could aid in saving battery life, so there’s that.

It will also be powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, accompanied by 1GB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, and will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and measure 11.6mm thick, which we guess is understandable given the size of its battery.

As it stands the Philips W6618 smartphone is available only in China where it is retailing for $273 and we’re not sure if there are plans to bring it stateside or to other parts of the world, but is this a phone you wouldn’t mind having just for its big battery?
