Windows Phone owners who used Google Voice might be familiar with MetroTalk. it was one of the best rated Google Voice application for Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Unfortunately following a ToS change last year Google requested that MetroTalk be removed from the Windows Phone Store. Even after the change the app was supported for six months which have now ended. MetroTalk for Windows Phone is officially dead.
People who used the app might be sad to see the popular third-party Google Voice app go. The app did make its way back to the store after being pulled and remained there until last week. Support was initially expected to end on May 1st and even though it took a bit longer, the app is no longer available from the Windows Phone Store. Folks who already have it installed are out of luck as well since MetroTalk doesn’t work anymore.
The app supported push notifications for receiving SMS messages and voicemail on Google Voice even when it was not active. The team had focused on the user experience and performance during development and that paid off as the app had a high rating and good reviews from majority of its users.
Only recourse Windows Phone users have right now is to access Google Voice through its website until an official app is made available.
