facebook-unfollowWebsites go down once in a while and that’s to be expected, but when it’s a website used by over a billion people, then you have a problem. Well that’s what happened to Facebook a little over an hour ago. In case you weren’t around to notice, Facebook users were suddenly met with an error message that read, “Sorry, something went wrong.”

This issue persisted for a pretty short amount of time before things quickly went back to normal. It is unclear as to what caused the outage, but the website is now back up and running, for those who are wondering. Facebook issued a statement about the matter, although they did not dive into any details as to what could have been the cause.

According to Facebook, “Earlier today, we experienced an issue that prevented people from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

If anything this incident only highlights our addiction to the social network. When the website was down, Twitter was flooded by users who were wondering what went wrong. Some were asking what were they supposed to do with Facebook down (although hopefully this was made in jest), but it is an interesting question – what would we be doing if Facebook did not exist?
