htc-one-review-m8-labshot-20We guess putting a name to the act of taking of photo of oneself has somehow managed to turn it into an even bigger trend than it once was, and it seems that HTC will be trying to capitalize on that trend with an upcoming device called the HTC Eye. This is according to @evleaks who revealed that HTC has a phone in the works codenamed “Eye”.

The phone is expected to see a release in Q4 2014 for the US market where it will be arriving on AT&T. While the specs of the phone remain a mystery, @evleaks claims that the phone will be marketed as the ultimate “selfie” phone. We’re not sure what that means – could it be that the front-facing camera will have huge megapixels? Because we’ve seen that done before, unless HTC has software features that will take selfies to the next level.

In any case it sounds more like a novelty rather than something that’s really useful, so we have to wonder if that’s a smart strategy for HTC right now, unless they’re planning on marketing it to teens and youngsters who might be more into the selfie trend that most adults. In the past we have seen how HTC attempted to create very specific phones, like the Facebook phone in the form of the HTC First and HTC ChaChat, both of which did not do particularly well if you guys can recall.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but you can bet we will be keeping our eye(s) (pun intended) peeled for more information. In the meantime what kind of features do you think would lend itself to an ultimate selfie phone?
