iphone-fireWhen it comes to smartphones catching fire, there has been many examples in the past. For instance, this iPhone 5c caught fire and burned its schoolgirl owner, while another iPhone 5s was torched (albeit in the name of science), or how about a Samsung Galaxy S4 that burst into flames while it was under a pillow? All of those can be pretty scary, but it would be easy to run away from such a situation, but what happens when an iPhone catches fire in the middle of a commercial aircraft flight? Thankfully, this issue did not arise while the plane was in the air, but rather, as a flight was beginning to embark from Tel-Aviv, Israel to Prague, Czech Republic.

Around 150 passengers were boarding and getting settled in, when one girl took out her iPhone 5 from her purse as it begun to release smoke throughout her seat area, and subsequently, into the aircraft cabin. This obviously did not sit well with the rest of the passengers, and everyone was alarmed – including those who smelled the smoke but did not see the burning iPhone 5.

Everyone was duly disembarked by the crew as officials investigated into the situation. Thankfully, there was nobody who was hurt, and Yardin was required to leave her handset behind while the plane made its way to Prague. It remains to be seen what was the cause of the iPhone 5 lighting up.
