xperia z3 tenaaThe Sony Xperia Z3 is expected to be Sony’s second flagship phone for 2014, following the Sony Xperia Z2 which was announced earlier this year. So far we’ve caught glimpses here and there, and now thanks to recent certification from China’s TENAA (which is basically the country’s equivalent to the FCC), additional images of the handset have surfaced.

Assuming that the leaks and benchmarks are accurate, we already know a fair bit about the handset. For instance recent measurements have revealed the handset to be an impressive 7.3mm, making it slightly thicker than the Gionee GN9005 which proclaims to be thinner at 5mm. The benchmarks have also revealed a 5.1-inch Full HD 1080p display, which is admittedly slightly disappointing as we’re sure many were hoping it would go QHD.

It also appears to be clocked at 2.26GHz with a quad-core processor of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 make. Once again it is a little odd since we thought Sony would at least go for the Snapdragon 801 or Snapdragon 805, but there is a chance that the benchmarks might have been for a prototype device.

There also appears to be around 3GB of RAM, 12GB of onboard storage, a whopping 19MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and it looks like it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but with IFA 2014 around the corner, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sony announced something then, so be sure to check back with us during the event for the details.
