rokutvRoku has just made an announcement of their ‘Roku Powered’ program that will target pay TV service providers who happen to be based outside of the U.S., and Roku looks to license the technology which will power its streaming platform in order to open the door for providers to utilize the Internet in order to have it deliver customized entertainment to consumers.

Steve Shannon, the general manager of content and services over at Roku, shared, “There has been incredible demand from pay TV providers for a simple way to address the increasing consumer interest in Internet-delivered entertainment. Our world-class software, cost-effective hardware design, and broad content selection make Roku the ideal strategic partner for Pay TV providers to work with to transform their user experience and set the stage for success in this fast-changing world of Internet-delivered video.”

With the Roku Powered programme, there will be a greater degree of customization and integration to go alongside pay TV services. Roku was the one who pioneered this particular approach alongside with BSkyB (Sky), and in 2012, Roku and Sky worked on the Now TV Box which eventually made its way to the market in July 2013. That marked the very first time that Roku managed to license its award-winning streaming platform, enabling Sky to extend its leadership where over-the-top video is concerned through the power of a cost-effective hardware design that is coupled with a secure software platform.
