10859-3293-141021-Maps_Connect-lWhen it was first rumored that Apple could be thinking of releasing Apple Maps, many were excited as the technology that would be used to help Apple provide detailed and accurate maps sounded very promising, although safe to say that the final result was definitely not what Apple had expected or predicted.

That being said, Apple has been working on improving Apple Maps for a while now and has recently launched a web portal called “Maps Connect”. Basically this web portal allows local businesses to provide information to Apple to help make Apple Maps more accurate. This allows businesses to list themselves on the map with more precise locations.

It will also allow them to add additional details like business category, hours of services, as well as links to other social media such as Yelp. It also seems that the Maps Connect portal is also asking business to sign up for iBeacon installations. This seems to be in line with an earlier patent report which suggested that Apple could be using iBeacons to help provide indoor maps to the Apple Maps app.

According to Search Engine Land, the information that businesses uploaded to Maps Connect are said to take about a week to approve and appear in the Maps app, so don’t be surprised if once in a while you see some changes that have been made to certain locations/businesses.
