moviecreatorNow this is one particular instance where if “everyone’s doing it”, then it should also be ripe and right to go ahead. The likes of HTC, Sony, and heck, even BlackBerry have their very own app that are able to take your favorite recorded clips as well as images, only to have them merge together into a highlight reel. Microsoft has finally decided to jump aboard the proverbial bandwagon by rolling out their very own Movie Creator.

As the Bard mentioned before, a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet – which is why this Movie Creator will feature a similar premise as all of the other similar apps in the running, although Microsoft does promise that its version will arrive with additional customization options, an easier user experience, a lesser amount of time that is required to come up with a video, and best of all is, it will be free. This free beta is available for all Lumia devices that run on Windows Phone 8.1 and above, alongside the Lumia 2520 and Surface tablets.

Movie Creator will not impose any kind of limitations on the clip’s length, where one is able to choose up to 25 videos as well as stills to be part of the reel. Once you have made your decision on which will make the cut, you will then be presented with a linear timeline – with the freedom to rearrange the order according to your whims and fancies. It weighs in at 164MB in the Windows Phone Store and 189.7MB in the Windows Store.
