amplitube-android

There’s always a debate about which ecosystem has the better applications, as both iOS and Android have the most amount of apps available out of all the platforms that exist in the market today. iOS has generally been preferred by developers who make audio processing and reproduction applications due to a couple of problems with Android but that gap slims down today. Samsung has brought over the first real-time guitar signal processing app for Android to its devices.

There are two major reasons why developers of such applications have shunned the Android OS which include fragmentation and high latency. Google itself has made many efforts to reduce fragmentation across the entire Android ecosystem but that’s a trade-off you have to make when you don’t control both hardware and software.

Nevertheless Samsung has closed down that gap by teaming up IK Multimedia, which is behind the AmpliTube app. This applications is now available for Android and it allows to plug in their guitars directly into their smartphone for signal processing in real-time. At this point in time AmpliTube for Android is only compatible with Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. Support for Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S5 is coming soon.

AmpliTube touts around 11 stompbox effects, 5 amps, 2 microphones, a digital tuner and 15 sound presets. Users will require an audio interface hardware to plug in their guitars, IK Multimedia offers iRig, iRig Stomp and iRig HD-A for $39.99, $69.99 and $99.99 respectively.

App is available in three versions, free, light and full, with the two costing $19.99 and $9.99. They’re available for download from Samsung Apps.
