spotify-social-press-release-780x468Have you ever wondered what kind of music your friends listen to? Maybe you and your group of friends all share similar tastes in music, but if you’re wondering if there might be an artist or band that you have yet to discover, Spotify is here to help you with that. The company has recently announced a new playlist called “Top Tracks in Your Network”.

In case the title of the playlist wasn’t already obvious, basically this is a playlist curated and put together by Spotify based on the songs that your friends listen to the most. This idea was actually borne out of a company hackathon and is a way for Spotify to recommend you songs from people that you know and trust.

However we can only imagine that with everyone having different tastes in music, especially some friends who have particularly eclectic tastes, the playlist can be a strange mix of songs spanning a variety of genres, some of which you might not have even heard about, but hey, isn’t that what music discovery is about?

In addition to this smart playlist, Spotify has also mentioned that they will also show you songs that might be popular amongst your friends on your Artist and Album pages, so for example if you’re discovering a new artist and you’re wondering which is a good song to start, this new feature from Spotify could tell you that a particular track is favored by your friends.

The feature should be live on mobile devices now and is expected to roll out to the desktop soon.
