BlackBerry-LogoA few years ago, one of the “advantages” that Android users claimed to have over iOS users is that their device could support Adobe Flash. We guess this made sense as many websites relied on Flash back then, but this quickly changed as Adobe had recently stopped the development of Flash as well.

Well it looks like BlackBerry has finally decided to do away with the support for Flash as well with the BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 update. Some users were wondering why Flash had been removed from the BlackBerry Browser and now BlackBerry has offered an explanation as to why that was the case.

According to BlackBerry, “BlackBerry 10 OS has been on the market for the past two years, and we continue to have the highest mobile HTML5 test score. We understand how important web browsing is to you, which is why we have always invested in giving you the best possible web browsing experience.”

“During this time Adobe has stopped Flash development support for mobile browsers. This is consistent with the shift of mobile web content generally moving towards HTML5. As a result, we can no longer support Adobe Flash beginning with the upcoming software release of BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.3.1.”

That being said if you absolutely have to have Flash, thanks to BlackBerry’s platform, you can still go ahead and install Android apps and browsers that still have Adobe Flash in them, although like BlackBerry has noted, support for development of Flash has stopped so we can’t really see the reason why you might still need it.
