here-maps-androidNokia’s HERE Maps is certainly a force to be reckoned with – basically, being one of the major rivals to Google Maps when it comes to finding one’s way around, especially in unfamiliar territory. After all, one of the major advantages that Nokia’s HERE Maps have had for a long time would be its ability to navigate without the need for an Internet connection – useful stuff, especially when you are in a foreign country and do not want to be slapped with insane data usage bills at the end of the month due to data roaming.

Having said that, a rather extensive map update is all set to be released worldwide – which means that HERE Maps on both Android and Windows Phone platforms would benefit from this upcoming update. Do expect a slew of improvements to be part of the deal which would make the navigation app all the better. iOS users will have to sit this one out, since HERE Maps is not available on iOS – for the moment, although we have no idea whether that will change or not down the road.

Do expect the updated versions of the app to arrive with improved “water features”, not to mention updates made to majority of the regional maps.
