samsung camera patentIn 2013 Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 Zoom which was basically felt like a compact camera with smartphone features. Samsung then followed up with the Galaxy K zoom in 2014, so could 2015 be the year we expect yet another smartphone camera device from Samsung? Perhaps, and thanks to a recent patent discovery, its potential design has been revealed.

As you can see in the image above, it shows a patent from Samsung for a phone with a very large camera at the back, which is similar to the Galaxy K zoom. However there are some design differences, such as the edges of this patent which appear to be sharper, while the Galaxy K zoom had softer and more rounded edges.

Also the patent seems to have done away with the flash unit on the camera, but as Patently Mobile points out in one of the diagrams, could Samsung be thinking about integrating the flash unit inside the lens itself? We’re not sure if that will make a difference in terms of exposure and flash distribution, but it could lend itself to a sleeker design.

There is also a hole at the top which has been speculated could be used to house a possible stylus, and given that the stylus is pretty much an exclusive to Samsung’s Galaxy Note series, could we be looking at a Galaxy Note Zoom instead this year? There’s no telling if the patent will ever be made a reality, but given Samsung’s penchant for releasing camera phones every year, perhaps we will learn more later on in 2015.
