Verizon today announced its plan to launch an online video streaming service later this year. For this purpose the company is teaming up with Awesomeness TV which is an online network that produces content for teens and millennials as well as its owner DreamWorks Animation. These companies will work together to produce content for the new service and they’ve already signed a multi-year deal that locks in 200 hours of original content per year.

Awesomeness TV will produce 200 hours of original content per year which will include scripted and unscripted series. A separate channel will be produced by DreamWorks Animation which will provide content geared more towards families.

Netflix and Nickelodeon already carry programming from Awesomeness TV, and then there’s its own massive YouTube network, so the company has significant reach as it is. With 112 million subscribers its content has gained more than seven billion views across all networks.

Courtesy of YouTube Awesomeness TV’s reach is not just limited to the United States, its content is viewed and appreciated by millions of people around the globe, but Verizon is going to restrict the two channels to U.S. residents only.

No word on the launch date as yet. Verizon has only said that the new over-the-top online video streaming service will be launched at some point later this year.
