htc-logo-sketchLast week we reported that according to comments allegedly made by ASUS’ chairman Johnny Shih during company meetings, it seems that the company was not closed to the idea of possibly acquiring HTC. As we noted that time, this was merely a comment and it did not seem like ASUS was serious about it or have started any form of discussion with HTC.

However we suppose there are some who might have interpreted this as a strong possibility, forcing HTC to come forward and release a statement shutting down any rumors that ASUS could acquire them. According to HTC, “We strongly deny the news. We didn’t contact Asusteck and will not consider the acquisition. As an international brand, HTC will continue to design world-class innovative smart devices through its pursuit of brilliance brand promise.”

Based on HTC’s statement, it seems that they will not consider any such acquisition by ASUS should it be brought up. This is the second time in recent weeks that HTC has had to deal with rumors of a possible buyout. Prior to this, there were rumors that Xiaomi could be considering buying HTC, but this is something that HTC has since denied.

The reason these acquisition rumors are popping up is because HTC has not been doing well. The company has seen their share prices drop following alleged poor sales of their handsets, which is why some might think the company is ripe for a buyout. In any case it looks like HTC will be moving forward alone for now.
