zenfone-2-6It is no secret that HTC is currently struggling. Last we heard, the company’s shares were dropping in value as the company’s isn’t doing as well as they should. This has led to the company’s chairwoman Cher Wang to apologize for the company’s performance, and during that meeting she also denied that Xiaomi was thinking of buying them out.

Well if not Xiaomi, then who else could be a worthy contender to acquire HTC? Well as it turns out ASUS might be one. According to a report from Reuters, it seems that ASUS isn’t completely closed off to the idea that they might acquire HTC. This is apparently based on a statement made by the company’s chairman Johnny Shih.

According to the statement which was retold by the company’s CFO David Chang, “Our chairman has chatted about the topic internally. Still, the chances of an actual takeover are not big as Asustek is a company that has depended on organic growth.” Based on that statement, it sounds like ASUS is just mulling the idea of a possible takeover.

It does not sound like the wheels have been put into motion just yet but it could be something the company will be looking at in the future. When it comes to smartphones, ASUS hasn’t really had much of a presence, but they could potentially bolster those efforts with an acquisition of HTC, but what say you? Do you think it’s time for someone to step in and “save” the company? Or do you think HTC could possibly rebound?
