Netflix has been working hard to build up its library of exclusive content, which includes TV shows, documentaries, movies and much more. A-list stars tend to attract more viewers towards a new movie even if it ends up bombing on the box office which is why most big budget movies have high star power. Netflix has acquired the rights of one such movie, called War Machine, it stars Brad Pitt as a “rock star” four-star U.S. military general.

The character that Pitt plays is modeled after General Stanley McChrystal who was the commanding general for some time of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

It’s inspired by the best selling book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan written by the late Michael Hastings. The script has been penned by David Michod, who is also directing the movie.

Deadline reports that this is the biggest investment that Netflix has made in a feature film as it’s in the $30 million range. The deal will give the online streaming service distribution rights to War Machine, which starts shooting this August, and will be done by next year.

The rights mean that Netflix will control the distribution of this movie, which it plans to release for all subscribers and also in “select theaters” in 2016.
