mondaine_helvetica1_1If you’re wondering why the Mondaine name sounds so familiar, it is because they are the company responsible for designing the clock face for the Swiss Federal Railways, which Apple had apparently misappropriated when they used it in their products which led to a lawsuit and eventually a settlement.

That being said, the company also announced earlier this year during Baselworld 2015 that the would be getting into the smartwatch business with the Helvetica 1 smartwatch, and for those who love the idea of a smartwatch that doesn’t necessarily look like a smartwatch, you’re in luck because it can now be pre-ordered.

The company has started to take pre-orders for the Helvetica 1 where it is priced at $950 ($100 off the asking price if ordered before 6th September). However it should be noted that it is a limited edition watch as there will only be 1,957 models made which is a nod at the year that Helvetica font was designed.

In terms of functionality, the Helvetica 1 will have features like most smartwatches. This includes the ability to track daily steps, distance travelled, calories burned, and the inner dial of the watch will also show you your progress. It can also track your sleep and will sport a quartz movement with the MotionX activity tracker. It will also be compatible with both iOS and Android devices and has a reported battery life of 2 years.
