The Tomb Raider reboot was launched in 2013 and the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider will be its sequel, but how many more Tomb Raider games can we expect? Given the popularity and positive reviews that the game has gotten since its launch, we can only expect that Square Enix will want to milk it for all its worth.
However as it turns out, the rebooted franchise might only be a trilogy. Speaking to GameSpot, Square Enix Americans CEO Phil Rogers was quoted as saying, “What it’s done for the sake of the studio and the next beat with the Tomb Raider trilogy… But the backlash is–we’ve watched carefully and we believe it’s the right thing to do.” He also addressed the backlash that Rise of the Tomb Raider had gotten when it was announced as a timed exclusive to the Xbox One.
According to Rogers, “We believe first and foremost this is the right thing to do with Tomb Raider right now.” Now despite Rogers stating that the franchise will be a trilogy, neither Square Enix nor the game’s developer Crystal Dynamics has made an official announcement with regards to a possible sequel after Rise of the Tomb Raider.
However given Rogers position as CEO, chances are his statement is probably accurate to a certain extent. Like we said, the reboot has been met with a lot of praise so it really wouldn’t surprise anyone if Square Enix had more games planned for the future.
