We have recently reported about remote hacking vulnerabilities in cars like Jeeps and Teslas, the car makers were quick to develop fixes for their cars but unlike Teslas which can receive a fix easily over the air things are a bit different for other vehicles. That’s why Fiat Chrysler has issued a voluntary recall of around 7810 Jeeps sold in the United States because of remote hacking concerns.

This recall affects models of the 2015 Jeep Renegade which come with an in-dash infotainment system that has a 6.5 inch touchscreen, Fiat Chrysler says more than half of the affected models are still at dealerships across the country and they will be patched and serviced prior to being sold to the public.

The company issued a recall for 1.4 million vehicles a few weeks back after a team of security researchers demonstrated a vulnerability that allows attackers to remotely hack into the car and control vital functions including killing the engine.

Fiat Chrysler has launched a website through which owners can check if they need to bring in their vehicle, to check if their car is included in the recall list they need to match their Vehicle Identification Number against those in the list. If the car needs to be brought in dealerships will patch them at no charge to the owner.
