instagramLast year in December, Instagram announced a milestone of sorts when they revealed that they had reached 300 million users. Nearly a year later it looks like the service has grown leaps and bounds as they have announced that they are now at a very impressive 400 million users! Granted the numbers aren’t the same as Facebook, but we reckon it’s still pretty impressive.

According to some of the numbers shared by Instagram, they revealed that 75% of their community is based outside the US, meaning that a quarter of Instagrammers are from the US alone! They also note that the Brazil, Japan, and Indonesia are some of the more popular countries that have added to Instagram’s population.

Instagram writes, “When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream. Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram — helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions.” At the rate the service is launching, we have to admit we are curious to see what numbers Instagram will announce in a year.

In the meantime, Instagram has been trying to monetize itself with ads that are inserted in between posts. Earlier this month, the company announced that their ads would begin rolling out globally, and with 400 million subscribers, that’s a lot of potential eyeballs.
