No one needs to be reminded that Instagram is a very popular service, but today the company has celebrated a huge milestone, because even though only nine months ago it announced that the service had 200 million users today Instagram confirmed that it has more than 300 million users with 70 percent coming from outside the U.S. Instagram, now owned by Facebook, also announced that verified badges are coming to the service.

The 300 million user milestone is definitely something to be proud of. It makes Instagram bigger than Twitter, the microblogging service had some 284 million active users about six weeks back. More than 70 million photos are shared on Instagram each day with over 30 billion photos being shared ever since Instagram was launched.

Apart from announcing this milestone, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom took to the official blog to reveal that verified badges are coming soon to Instagram. They will verify accounts of brands, celebrities and athletes making it easier for users to connect with authentic accounts.

Instagram has been deactivating fake and spammy accounts for some time now but now its going to take it up a notch. To keep the service free from these accounts, Instagram will now delete these accounts forever, so if you have any following you, expect to see a dip in your follower count.
